Unrealistic job demands for teenagers

At my first job, if you couldn’t make it to a shift, you had to find someone to cover you or else you’d get a point, too many points and you’re fired. One time, I had a choir concert (that I had to perform at for a grade) that was happening at a time I was scheduled to work. I went into my job, ran around the whole store asking people if they could cover my shift and multiple of my older coworkers told me that if I kept having conflicts like this, I was going to have to choose between work and school… I was 16. That’s something that can be frustrating about certain entry level jobs where the age range of workers is so large. A lot of the older people who have been working there for a while are so far removed from school and social life…

annoying interview questions.

I'm actually wondering how many people are experiencing this and what your thoughts on it is. I'm getting questions where hr, hiring managers, and recruiters are asking me “Do you have experience in [insert your job title from 3-5 jobs ago here]?” I mean I know most hiring managers average about 6-10 seconds on a resume, but literally not knowing some of the skill sets of your potential hire seem like a red flag to me, especially if it's literally the job your hiring for.

Got fired for not letting my job know I’d be absent when I did

Just got off the phone being told that I'm being let go for not informing my supervisor that I'd be out. This has happened twice now, but the thing is I did let my work know. No one told my supervisor and I couldn't since I had no way of letting him know. Yesterday he said he would get me his number when I told him I let someone else know I would be out two weeks ago. Today all I had was a different person's number so I asked them to relay the message since I didn't have any contact info. They said 'no'. Earlier today my supervisor called me and I explained that I informed someone else and asked them to pass it along and, of course, he hadn't heard a thing. (I guess that ones my fault for not asking for his number in hindsight) I also…

She’s a single mom who works 2 jobs…

So work is extra aggravating me right now, and I need to vent. I left my last job almost two months ago. I was hired as part time, and that was fine initially. As soon as I start they tell me I’ll be working full time due to them being short staffed. Okay. Well three months later I’m set for my 3 month review. Still working full time hours. It doesn’t happen because my boss is busy. Another month goes by and she finally gives me my review after I have asked multiple times because I wanted to know how my performance was. At this meeting I mention to her that if I would like to be considered as a full time employee. She agrees and we move on. I get a 75 cent raise (lol) well someone ends up quitting and at this point we’re at six months and…

Call me Ishmael…..

So another new policy at work designed to get us to quit: I have to retype all of my work onto a word doc, print them out and submit them to a series of different middle mangers for critique. People who (a) don't do our job and don't know anything about it (b) is sort of insulting because we haven't had any complaints on our work that would warrant this (c) nobody reads them anyway and we already have the digital copies sent to them automatically. I just started copy pasting chapters from different royalty free novels I downloaded and so far I haven't had anyone ask me why my notes seem to focus a lot on whales…

Being forced to work is such a nightmare, I cannot explain the dread I feel

anyone else feel that it is completely immoral to force people to work? I just want it to stop but I fear we could be another 50 years away from UBI or post-scarcity and in meantime, I'm forced to live this nightmare of having to beg just to exist. NOBODY SHOULD HAVE TO PAY WITH THEIR TIME JUST TO EXIST

My idiot boss just lost $300.000 Dollars over 30 cents

This just happened and I am furious about it, I need to vent. I work at an office that sells commodities around the world. I work in sales and despite having a small salary I can make good money with commissions. After chasing them for many months I finally got a client that was willing to buy a lot from us, they made an order worth $300.000 usd. My commission was 10% ($30.000 usd). Everything was ready, and the client made the payment, but our bank would take 0.1% commission for the transaction (which is a lot, but is also standard practice), so 300 bucks. My idiot boss decided that we shouldn’t pay for those 300 dollars, so he rejected the payment and told the client that they should send more money to cover the 300 dollars. The client was understandably angry, but decided to make the payment again, this…
