Corporate Profits Are Driving Inflation
I have been scheduled to work on Wednesday night with some spillover onto Thanksgiving for two weeks now. This would mean I would be getting some holiday pay for the hours worked after midnight. Just yesterday, my boss contacted me about a shift change; the same number of hours, but earlier in the day so that there would be no spillover onto Thanksgiving. This is entirely due to the fact that they were too incompetent to notice the holiday pay when they originally made the schedule, and they are now trying to cover their own ass, at my expense. Do I have any recourse? Can I refuse the new shift and demand that they honor the hours and schedule that they originally promised me? This is occurring in Illinois.
Can my job move me departments?
For background, I live in Texas and was recently hired for a telework position dealing with a program for mental health issues. Today I recieved an email that due to restructuring my department was absorbed with another programs to form a new program. Can a organization do that? If I have not signed anything and my current job description does not include the new department.
My boss put me on admin leave without and prior notice and he told me to give back all company property. Now he is saying that I still have to fulfill prior commitments with partner organizations. Is this right? I personally don't feel comfortable being expected to work after I had basically been told that I'm not allowed to, so I haven't followed through with these commitments. I'm afraid he can now use that against me to terminate my employment after the admin leave is over. (Quebec, Canada)
When I was 16 I was offered a job at a garden nursery and told it would be a paid apprenticeship on £4.60 an hour full time for a year and then I would be able to keep my job working there for a good salary. They told me they would keep track of all my work and write it up online to get my qualifications at the end. I soon realised it wasn't normal work at all, it was heavy duty lifting and carrying everyday for about 10 hours. I ended everyday exhausted and in pain, not ready for my hours commute. During my shifts I was given a 20 minute lunch break all day and was told off for taking rest breaks or using the bathroom. It seems very naive but I had been brought up told that hard work was the only way to be successful and…
Choosing between two jobs
Hi all, tomorrow I will meet with my manager because I have a new job offer which is offering me about 25% more salary per month. How should I go about this discussion? I like my current job and manager etc, and I'd be willing to stay but I want them to match the offer at least. Any tips on how to go into this discussion?
