Can work from home but office are making me come in despite me needing surgery

Hey guys, Long time lurker first time poster (mainly because i thought my job was cool enough to not have me post here) I work a shift based office job and we have a specific shift that is work from home. Now recently i've had a condition pop up that leaves me in a great deal of pain when i stand/walk around. I've been to a doctor and they've said i need surgery. Now because i'm not a complicated surgery i'm not immediately able to be operated on. However I can't get to the office because of the pain. Docs will get me a date for surgery in a couple weeks. I have everything i need to do my job at home i have asked my management if i can continue working from home as they do for the late shift because sat at my desk at home i'm ok…

Saw this at the my new workplace. Gave me a chuckle. Figuring the great wall was built by forced labor, i looked it up, and over 400,000 people died making it. Teamwork.

“Below Expectations”

My gf just got a “Below Expectations” performance review at her marketing firm. She was asked to relocate from Lebanon to Dubai 3 months ago after being highly regarded as one of if not the best employee at their Lebanon branch. They let go most of their other employees in Leb and she was asked to relocate. The moving months of Aug Sep and Oct were a little challenging with finding apartments and understanding the difference in bureaucracy there but she managed rather well. Despite being asked to do things out side her scope of work… and despite the team sometimes ignoring her ideas and then eventually circling back to them admitting they were great.. she had a decent start. Sure there were a few rough days .. like 5 or 6 when she asked to work from home because she was MOVING APARTMENTS AND FURNISHING IT. But she was…

Any success stories of people who quit their job before looking for a new one?

I am completely and utterly burnt out at my current job. There is no light at the end of the tunnel. I am struggling with forcing myself to do my job every day, because every fibre of me is screaming that I don’t want to be there. I feel like I really need to quit for my mental well-being. But I’m also afraid of it being more difficult to find a new job if I don’t currently have a job. Can I hear some success stories to bolster my courage please?

Aristotle On Why We Should Define Ourselves By Our Leisure – Not By Our Work

TLDR: Ancient Greece (and, I'm guessing, many societies from the past) is more similar to our society than I would have guessed. Aristotle reckons that our leisure time should be more than simply “recovering from work”. It should be nurturing to our mind and soul and is a key part of developing our individual selves. He also understands the guilt we feel for not achieving enpugh in our work lives while also feeling guilty for not achieving enough in our personal lives. Worth a read if you're interested in the thoughts of very clever dead people. 3-5 minute read
