Abusive work environment + extra responsibilities. Asking for a raise as an ultimatum?

FYI: I have posted about this situation in the past but there are updates. I am ACTIVELY looking for a new job—preferably not in corporate America. I just haven’t found one yet and I need to pay my rent. I can’t afford to quit but I am happy to be fired and collect unemployment. I started working at a small company 5.5 months ago. 2 months in, the social media manager was fired and I took on his job as well as my own (which requires a lot of work). I work for micromanaging leadership, and the owner publicly shames or gets hyper critical of me in meetings, changes goal posts, acts like she didn’t tell me to do things and gets mad when I do, and is an all around narcissist. Anyway, my (amazing) supervisor is leaving. She was the only one who had my back and stood up…

I get calls every single day from my low paying job

So I’m a manager for a small business but I work very closely with the owner. Part of my job duties is that when I’m not working, to take calls from the employees and if the employees can’t come in, then I am forced to come in to work. I work Monday to Friday and I am absolutely fed up with having to come in to work on my time off. It’s Sunday morning (I sleep with my phone on silent) and my boss phones me to say that this employee has messaged and called me and that I haven’t picked up. Apparently she’s sick and she’s at work and if she decides to go home, then I have to go in because that’s part of my duties. I am forced to work extra shifts at least once a week. So that means once a week I work 12 hour…

I worked at Starbucks

Honestly just kinda want to rant and share my experience because I've been thinking about how far I've come. I'm in a much better spot now and just had my first week at a job that genuinely cares about employees and I had a fantastic day every day, and it makes me so happy that I left my old job and learned how to set boundaries. I worked at Starbucks for a few months in 2019, so literally right before the world went to shit. It was still one of the better jobs I'd had and most of the employees were genuinely great. The only problem was the manager who I'll call Bea. Bea seemed really nice and energetic at first, but after being there for a few weeks I found out that she was just a hard ass that didn't actually give a shit about people. Nothing was ever…

Unfair raises

I work at a large scale vehicle service shop as essentially a AGM. Everyone gets along well, we're always busy, we've been very successful in meeting goals and developing our speed and quality the last 9 months I've been at this location (Management gets transferred to other nearby locations all the time). The majority of the techs have been employed here about 9-12 months, and gotten raises according to time and skill development. Once you complete a certain amount of training you move to the next level and get a raise, it's standardized to keep it fair. This last week we got a notice from regional corporate to start new hires with morning availability at a higher amount which is great. I've been trying to voice my opinion about doing so for a few months now, especially as we've been struggling to find more openers So, to avoid paying new…

I can afford to quit…is it time?

Monday was my scheduled day off, I was supposed to work until Sunday, I was sick at work (developing fever, diarrhea, body aches) on Wednesday and have been off since Thursday. My coworker got sick, I’m still feeling off, it’s just the two of us and the owner, and this is the schedule for next week. I usually only get a day off in a week because I typically cover other peoples shifts. I’ve honestly been looking for an excuse to quit and I wanted to know if this is it, just wanted some second opinion. (Also if this is my chance, am I obligated to work the hours I’m already scheduled?)
