I'm out in western Washington where a windstorm knocked out power to roughly 250,000 households this Friday and Saturday. Most of us didn't have power for the whole weekend. Monday morning, I wandered to Starbucks to get a coffee since I couldn't make one myself and you know what? EVERY SINGLE PERSON WAS AT WORK. Every table and every outlet, people were logging in and responding to emails. People who hadn't showered in two days. People who didn't have functioning toilets. People who literally did not have heat for 2 days were in Starbucks, immediately after a natural disaster working. We can't even take one day for rest after a natural disaster. What is wrong with our country. Can we even fix it?
My boss just had all of the office workers take the 16 personalities test and email him the results privately for “team building”. I have severe generalized anxiety that I am currently taking medication for but it has dramatically impacted my test answers. A coworker has made a bet that they will be using this to fire people, if they do I know my scores wont look good. What could they be using this info for? Can they really fire someone over a personality test? If I something were to happen, what are my rights? I also posted this in r/careerguidance but I haven't had luck getting answers there in past posts. I figured you guy's more skeptical minds might help me more.
When “Coaching” Sounds more like a Memo
job interviews shouldn’t cost money
Just had a job interview. The place was in a basement of a medical building (reception/assistant for an ultrasound clinic) they told me the pay was $1.50 less than I made at my last job & a second interview would be an unpaid work interview. Parking was $4. So, I had to pay for this interview & they expect me to pay for the honour of an unpaid hour of work eff that!
Working on Black Friday.
Every company I’ve worked at up until now (Even the one I’m currently at) has had the day after thanksgiving off. I work in the service industry. Not at a restaurant or big box store, I’m a technician for an alarm company. Today I was told by my boss that this year we wouldn’t have Black Friday off for various reasons that boil down to just general money hungry reasons. even though we had it off the year before and the year before that one. Now that I’m in this predicament, it’s got me thinking about all the workers that have to work on Black Friday night. I’ve never participated in the whole black Friday thing because It’s never seemed worth it to me to fight through crowds of morons to get items at discounted rates. Nonetheless, I feel for the Black Friday workers. I’m sorry y’all have to work…
