Called in sick today at a job I’ve only been at 3 months. I’m 28 years old so a part of me is bugging out – what will they think ? Is this going to look bad? Is my career over? Calling out on a random Tuesday?! The other part of me doesn’t give a f. technically speaking – I’ve accumulated 3 sick days
Helping burnout with 13 or 14 hr shifts?
Quit my job :(
I’m actually kind of sad about it. It’s work I genuinely enjoy for the most part but the hours have gotten ridiculous. Next week I’m scheduled for three 14 hour days in a row, and we’re expected not to eat on shift (we don’t get breaks). When I first started the hours were more manageable – maybe a 14 hour shift once a week and the rest of the time, 7 or 8 hours. My problem is that if I finish at 10pm and start at 8 the next morning, I’ve got to get up at 6:30, which means I can’t spend time cooking, showering or doing anything for myself after work unless I want to be exhausted the next morning… and then I have to rinse and repeat the entire thing. I’m still upset about leaving though.
We can probably assume “joy of life”, but more specifically, what has working ruined for you? For me, eating meals. I enjoy food, tastes and experiences involved. Since I started working though, I just absorb whatever is in front of me and don't even remember what it tasted like. Oh, also the word “career”.
Boomers only
Not by choice tho
After one day of walkout action, the Ford government agreed to repeal Bill 28 in exchange for a end to the walkout. The ford government also agreed to strike the law “from the province's history” which prevents it from being used as future legal presidence. Basically, the Ontario government is admitting that they fucked up bad. Negotiations between the two parties will presumably resume.
It's open enrollment, and even if your workplace offers insurance you should apply. If your workplace insurance is super expensive or doesn't cover things like mental health you can still qualify. When I was making poverty wages I got decent insurance with no monthly premium- even if you can't afford to go see a doctor regularly having insurance helps in an emergency. I know so many people who don't know anything about the options they have. The government loves to take from us, the least they can do is give us healthcare.
This right here! I can’t tell you how many f***ing times I’ve heard this, or some variant of this. I hate it! All those other jobs were from me trying to get on my feet, but they all sucked ass and had god-awful managers. I don’t owe my allegiance to any company, and I don’t have to stay there for years on end if I don’t want to! “bUt It LoOkS bAd On YoUr ReSuMe”. F*** right off!
