So do you get paid for picking up equipment?

Basically the title, starting a wfh job, not the greatest pay but it’s also not the worst. They asked me to go in to sign HR paperwork and pick up material, figured it’d be around three to four hours tops. The guy informed me its 8:30am to 5:00pm so basically a work day. I’ve been a sahm for a few years and before whenever I had to sign HR paperwork it was always considered a work day but I’ve never worked a wfh job before so not sure how it works tbh.

Ahh, summer layoffs… “Everywhere is hiring” but only if you cost cents

Kiwi here suffering in fast food. Became a part-timer because of university. I let my manager know that the contract about this schedule should switch to full time upon finishing this semester, specifying the date. Since last week she won't text me back about this, despite me asking for specific changes 5 months ago. I am finished with uni with nothing going on except the bills piling up, frantically applying to everything I have experience doing or would be physically able to do. Lucky me is over 18 though, and that means the company with the vacancy should pay me a living wage upon employment, and of course, they find that very yucky! It's much-more-importanter to pay a teenager their summer pocket money (I'm just joking). Because, they are cheaper. So, you see grocery stores suddenly bullying out whoever they can before the summer makes all shifts go to shit,…

One of my bosses is hogging an insane amount of hours while we’re getting barely anything! Is this even legal??

Lately at work full time employees have been getting 1-3 six hour shifts because our “hours are being cut” and part time employees were starting to not be scheduled at all. Well, one of the top people at my store is having a knee surgery and one of the other bosses said that because of this woman being out of work, every full time employee will now have a five day work week with 8 hours, and part time can get 3-4 days with 6-8 hour shifts as well. How is this even fucking possible?? One woman being gone let’s everyone get the hours they should’ve had in the first place. Is this legal?? How can she take so many hours when everyone else can’t even make ends meet with what they’re given and have to get other jobs?? What should I do in a situation like this and is…

I am so miserable at my job

I started working in childcare a month ago and I am having a really hard time. There are so many teachers in my family who love it but I never wanted to be one myself. I am just trying to gain experience to go into another job right now but I don’t think I can stick it out. I am not a stern person at all and the kids in my class do not listen to me, every time its nap time I go into complete panic mode because I know that there will be 4/5 kids jumping on their beds, ripping stuff off of shelves and walls, and just generally running around and not listening to me. Its really overwhelming all the time and I understand why the turnover rate is so ridiculously high. Almost every day I am thinking about how I can make myself sick or injured…

my personal experience: as life goes on, i get paid more for working less

I work in tech and eversince i was very young i could testify honestly my wish is to work as little as possible while earning as much money as possible. Today im not rich, but i do pretty good, i should also note i had some good support from my parents when it comes to paying for uni and education. The start of my career was really difficult to jump start, finding the first job was far from fast or easy and i had some luck there, my first few years honestly involved slaving away my time and energy, but ad time went on, i could afford better paying conditions eith less effort on my side. My point is, yes i am very lazy, but somtimes to get to be able to be lazy, u have to be a slave first, maybe its just my personal expirience, maybe i wa…

Teaching is making me miserable

This is my first year of teaching. I’m on a probationary certification, and I’m using the teachworthy program to get certified. I won’t be certified until the end of the year. I won’t go into details, but I’m completely miserable and I think I’m closer to suicide than I’ve ever been. My students (7th grade) are horrible and I’m so burnt out and stressed out. All day at work I just cry. Then when I get home I cry. Then all weekend I cry. I have panic attacks even when I’m asleep. I want to resign today but I don’t know if I can. I may completely lose my potential certification (no good cause act) if I quit mid year. My boyfriend makes 17 an hour, and we figured out that if we both made 17 an hour we could afford everything, but only have 300 dollars a month left…

I’m making a complete career change but worried about language in my employment contract.

I would like to terminate employment immediately as a branch manager in a construction company for reasons that include; declining housing market, no further advancement opportunities, health is declining due to materials we work with, and my boss is a jerk. My employment contract states that “at sole option of employee” my notice should be at least 30 days. I’d like to resign immediately. Will I be in danger to be sued by company? I am employed at an at-will state.

My job is destroying my health

I am so fed up of my job. Everybody relies on me to do most of the work while they're slacking. My bosses barely do anything about it. It's gotten to the point where i have to put my phone on airplane mode on my days off, because nobody is doing anything and they need help. My job requires me to go outside several times a day however, we're not properly equipped for that. We're not allowed to use our personal coats, we can only wear the company's jackets. These jackets are nowhere warm enough for the canadian winter (not even waterproof). Last year my fingers started freezing up it was so painful. I have a heart condition and recently it started acting up more than usual, It jumps and squeezes. This job is ruining me, wtf do i do? I have to wait a month to talk to my…

I just wanted respect

This is going to be a long rant! I was just fired from my job for having the balls to try to stand up for me and coworker to have the human right to take care of our families. I was hired in March with an oilfield company working in the parts department. I fully disclosed that my wife was disabled, has cancer, and a myriad of other serious heath issues that at times leave her very weak and unable to take care of herself let alone our children. I informed them that I would likely have to take off more than normal to take care of my family. They assured me that this was not a problem and that most of my job could be done remotely. Since then they have hired a new manager who btw is 26 and is in a leadership role for the first time.…
