I work at a high(er) paying steel mill. 26 an hour in a rural mid western area. I've quit here once and it was awesome but I'm back now after several years. This plant has an “only 2 chances” thing and I'm on number 2. 12 hour shifts, 3 on 4 off 4 on 3 off. It's been a solid safety net, the thing is I hate it here. I'm a soulless husk of a person and stuck on night shift into the unforeseeable future. I have no debt, only utilities, insurance and phone bills but I have a family. I gotta get out of here but I don't know what to do. I'm at a loss and manic most days. Any and all suggestions welcome. Except an hero. Not on the table for me. My ideal work is 30 hours a week, 600 bucks a week.
Woke up to this message Today! Thoughts?
Last night at 12:00am we received an email from our client, why did you not reply to him? I don't think that all of you were asleep.. this is unacceptable! Next time I will be waiting for someone to reply.
Boss told me to be quiet about my wages
Title pretty much sums it up. Not going go into the company for anonymous reasons. But after I openly shared what I make with other employees, which I am well within my right to do according to the n.l r.b. Boss said other employees were upset. And that I should not mention my wages. Clearly can't afford to pay their employees a living wage. It's a right you have, share your wages with your coworkers. Demand better compensation.
You are just a number to them
My manager was assaulted by our boss
You know what: Fuck the elite I'm so tired of this shit. Grueling hours. Overtime. Revolving door in training staff. My manager and I have teamed up and got this disaster of a business back on its feet after a year. Working 10 to 14 hour shifts, 20 day stretches I've loved it. I love this job. I love my manager. We kill it. According to the records, we have never been more profitable and stated on budget even with inflation. We developed a 5 year plan and the owners have been very supportive. Today, our boss (not a partner) came in and violently assaulted my manager that resulted in a head injury requiring medical attention. Why? Why did he lose his shit? Because he was drunk AF and mad that his business wasn't doing better. Yeah well it's hard to save money when it goes up your nose. Mostly…
My house has a basement apartment and my grandmother has been living in the unit for a while now, she finally bought her own place and now I'm thinking about renting it out. The current market rate is about $1,300 for similar units. I figured I can save on expenses rather than just leave it doing nothing. I consider myself a communist but what to do?
Required shoes minimum wage
context, I work at a shoe store in the mall. I’m a dollar above minimum (which I genuinely think may have something to do w the shoe uniform policy) and part time, I am required to wear shoes we sell. They act like it’s a privilege that that’s the only uniform requirement we have. I have chronic back pain. The only brand we DONT carry is nike and I bought a pair just to feel comfortable at work BEFORE I started this job. It makes a world of difference. I am no longer miserable at work due to minimal back and leg pain. I wore them once and was talked to about it. I can’t afford any of the shoes we carry on practically minimum wage and none of them would work for my back anyway. I wore the shoes I’m supposed to wear yesterday and got a blister ON…
I have a work computer, and have worked at this company for 4 months, when I don't have anything to do, I scroll reddit, and since this is a calm period in the company, I literally sit and scroll reddit 8 hours a day, answering very few emails. I am very paranoid that I am going to be pulled aside one day and get a real bad slap on the wrist. Some information that could be useful: I have been doing this, since I started, and never been “caught”, I use the company wifi at work for my computer, I don't think they track our activity as another part of the job is going to appointments, some days I barely touch my computer because I am OOF all day, at appointments, which makes me believe, because of this they don't track activity. We use teams, the company is run by…
