I guess people will feel persecuted for all kinds of imagined and real threats. Tread carefully, since people are all too eager to have an us vs. them mentality.
Being On Time Bullshit. Live by the same rules as the people you supervise. Are they in the office? Well, you should be too. If you don’t want to do what you are asking of others, you need to reevaluate what you are doing. Making an Effort Fine, but be the example. Follow through. Offer something? Deliver. Doesn’t matter if it is a bonus or a cookie, deliver on what you promise. Oh- and if you fuck up and didn’t get approval for perk? Make it right. Sometimes, that means you must cover it. Don’t make your fuckups your employee’s problem. Being High Energy No. Recognize work and appreciate it. I’ll take an infinite number of groggy competent folk who need coffee and grumble about shit over one hyper “people-person” that doesn’t fix anything. Results matter. Find what works for your people and find a way to make it good…
Am I a communist?
I’m a worker . I’m responsible for production . I naturally want to be in control of the means of production or at least have a voice . I’m told this is a communist attitude. Please comrades , tell me .
Take things from work
Funny but so true. they steal wages and freedom from us so why not take a few things to get even. https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRHBr3nU/
I had a boss who was managing 7 hospitals, and she was probably the best boss I've ever had. She allowed us to work remotely whenever we wanted, she never micromanaged, she always encouraged last minute PTO, she told everyone it was okay to make mistakes, and she was just amazing! Anyway, I found out that her boss was so toxic. Even when she's out of country on vacation, her boss would text her — regardless of day or night. It was so crazy. Her boss basically owned her.
Safe-Space
A few weeks ago I went on a work “appreciation” retreat with my law firm. The second day of the four day retreat we had firm breakfast which was supposed to be a thank you to all the staff. Immediately upon sitting down with our lackluster breakfast buffet food (at a super swanky hotel), the partners proceed to tell us that this breakfast isn’t what we were told. They wanted each attorney to get up and ask the staff what the attorney needed to do better, to give honest feedback and that no one should be afraid to speak up. I work with a bunch of young people (including most of attorneys) that are at least 10-15 years my junior. I’ve been in this business for nearly 20 years and I cease to care what these higher ups think of me. None of the staff would speak up beyond some…
idk if i can post this here but ive been working at a small startup of approx 30 people for almost 4 months now and i think i am the only one who doesn’t give a shit about after-hours socialization. i like most of the people i work with. they’re nice people and it makes getting through the day a little easier. however my office culture is very centered around things like happy hours, game nights, and other activities where people will stay at the office getting drunk until 8-9pm. i just don’t give a shit about it. i like seeing these people every day but when i’m done with work i want to go home. it seems like this mindset is generally looked down upon by my coworkers and i get comments and slack messages every single time i skip one. i’ve gone to a few of these “events”…
