I need help with my job
I live in Connecticut in the USA. I recently got a job that is salary, I work off commission. My salary pays 8.75$ for 40 hour work week. My employer says that I’m required to work 2 Saturdays a month so I’m well over 40 hours each week are they legally allowed to force me to work 6 days? I also want to mention that this company treats its employees fantastically! I have looked everywhere to see if they can do this but can’t find anything for Connecticut I need Reddit help!!
Are worker Unions the answer?
Hi everyone! I hope everyone is doing well. Recently I've been observing an increasing change in my work ideology, in the sense that “Workers Unions” have come to my attention. I have heard of them before but I never minded them much until i saw a unionization happening online. The idea that the boss held all the power and made all the decisions is so naturally engraved in every workplace (especially where i live), i thought any other method was dumb or opressive. Afterall they are the bosses right? At first when i saw the union happen I looked at it with bad eyes but then I asked myself “wtf is a workers union anyway?”. I researched it in multiple websites and I realized that they seem somewhat reasonable to say the least. One of them even used the expression “Workers Unions democratize the workplace” which is very flashy but…
Back to work after 8 wks off
Summer break ends tomorrow. Been afraid & anxious for nearly a month now about going back. The insomnia started up again too. I've put so many stop gaps in to try and keep my mental health stable & afloat before I go back in, but I don't know if I'm going to make it. Decades of constant workplace related stress, abuse & trauma have taken its toll. I am not able to handle as much as I'm accustomed to anymore. CPTSD does that to you. And every day at work is a traumatizing af battle zone. I'm so fucking tired. When will it all end?
The “Get Your Shit Together” List
Recently there was a post here with a screen shot of a job application and some of the questions were along the lines of “Do you have trash in your car?” or something similar. The questions were dumb for a job application, primarily because no one would ever answer them honestly if they thought it would hurt their chances of a call-back. But it got me thinking about the people I know who…just…don't have their shit together. Some are wealthy and some are poor. Some are in their early 20s and some are in their mid 40s. So clearly it's not about age, experience, or income. I came up with this list. These are things that have nothing to do with money and none of them take more than a couple minutes to complete, so they're just related to a person's belief (or lack there of) that they live in…
There’s this company called “vector” and it’s a remote job where you work from home selling and I quote “the best knives in the world” this company is a one on one scheduled video calling that provides you with UNPAID training, No Benefits, and pays you only $21 PER APPOINTMENT. NOT AN HOUR. They did say that you make commission I assume depending on how many knives/ knive sets you sell. But the base pay is 21 per appointment.
As the title says I have been in and out of this field for more than 7 years now. I am going insane and losing my mind and soul having a headset on and waiting for that fucking beep/ring. I have been building computers for home/small business networks since my mid twenties after starting my IT career at Comcast. I am in my mid 30s getting older now, and really feeling the burn out in this IT field, just to be a machine and slave to numbers and stats. I recently graduated with my A.S. in Computer Information Technology and another cert I'll post on my resume here. I really really want to get into either web development or game development/design. My final year in college was filled with JavaScript, HTML, CSS and Python course. I made two websites and a few simple python programs between my classes. I really…
I live paycheck to paycheck, barely have 2000 dollars saved because life is so incredibly expensive, meaning that if anything bad happens I'm in serious trouble. My entire family is the same: my parents are 75 years old both and have to work here and there despite their retirement, in order to pay the rent and the food yada yada you know the drill. Basically, even though we're all in good health, we literally own nothing except a couple thousand dollars. Am I the only one in this situation? I mean, family-wise, or am I an exception?
