Payback to the Boss from Hell and a Nice Raise.

Had a job as call center supervisor back in August 2021. Had a competitor offer to steal me away for 12k more a year for same title. From 55k to 67k. I got no loyalty so I said “Sure” Well the interview process was recruiter, then panel. Both went really well and I could tell they liked me, however there was supposed to be a final interview with the man we’ll call “Victor” who would be my manager. Well interview comes and they reach out last minute to reschedule- Victors out sick. This happens two weeks in a row as it turns out he had covid, so his director steps in for the interview and hires me. The moment I met my boss he seemed to hate me hes a control freak, micromanager and bully and i’m 100% convinced he doesn’t like me because he didnt pick me.…

Well the interview process was recruiter, then panel.

The moment I met my boss he seemed to hate me hes a control freak, micromanager and bully and i’m 100% convinced he doesn’t like me because he didnt pick me.

So he’d throw every project he could at me and delegated so much of his work I started to question my job title. Sure enough the company comes back to us and says I’m doing so much above our job that I’m now an Ops Manager. Move up a grade and now at 80k a year.

We work from home. I’m actually present and working during my time online. But he doesnt trust and makes up for it with endless projects, no support, and always demanding.

I’m a contact center ops manager. Alot of you on this sub work as call center agents taking back to back calls. I remember those days and there were days I DREADED logging in.

The good thing about being in call center mgmt is you no longer take calls aside from the random escalation. That goes to zero when you’re an ops manager.

Do you know this guy would bully you so bad. Set an hour meeting and berate you for 90 minutes. If you “misunderstood” aka dont agree he punishes you with more meetings.

On one instance he made me share my screen and go thru my outlook deleted folder scrolling one by one because he wasn’t tech savvy and believed I had deleted his meeting invite.

So for the first time in almost a decade I felt like a level one agent. Curled up in a ball before work, dreading logging on and thinking of excuses to call out (something I had never done)

Then he would be so passive aggressive youd want to punch him. Hed bully you bc he knew they paid more than market and figured you wouldnt go anywhere. Fuck around and find out.

So I started using every moment outside of work to apply myself to new roles. I started applying for HIS ROLE (Sr Level Mgr) at other companies since I was already doing the work.

And sure enough last week I got an offer. I’m going to give them one week notice and take 2 before starting the new gig.

The best part? Victor just went out on vacation. Won’t be back until my last day. My resignation will be waiting for that ass.

The new role is my first ever six figure salaried role, and the team seem like very decent people. Went from 55k to Six figures in 6 months!

I thought because I was in a higher paying role that it would be alot harder to move on for comparable pay. It wasn’t. Do not take shit in a seller’s market!
