So, I saw my boss walk in with my paycheck on the 31st, he set it along with my coworkers on-top of his desk. Next day, payday, he comes in and doesn’t disperse them. Mid day he gets up, packs up his laptop and heads to his home, which is on the same property. I get up and grab my check off his desk, deposit it, and feel great about getting my check in my bank account. The next day, his son asks if we have paychecks as I’m leaving the office to go do my days work. Boss man tracks me down and asks if I got my check. I say yeah, yesterday (payday). He gets all boomer on me and says how that’s unacceptable, never do that again yada yada .. later his son gives me the same schpiel, how it’s an issue of trust, what else am I looking at, what if we had confidential documents there, no other boss would accept this etc.. the whole time, I’m literally smiling because it’s the most ridiculous situation I’ve been in at work. Every job I had growing up would let us teenagers come into the managers office and grab our checks unattended. Yet me, a 30 year old, picking up my check From the top of my bosses desk in the same room as mine, ON PAY DAY, is seen as some sort of shameful act by me?
This is probably the wrong sub for my venting but it just made me realize that yes, small businesses still gaslight their employees as much as big businesses.
Need to find a new job asap.
