Position Eliminated

I started at a small firm about a year ago. The first six months were great, but then I had nothing to do. I wasn’t given responsibility for projects, despite being in my job description, bc the senior team members I worked with were not willing to delegate or allow parts of their business to be taken over. Though it wasn’t widely known, I found out they were receiving commission from the projects they worked on and had incentive to not bring me in. About two months ago, I was approached by a c-suite member who said I had been named as a witness in a workplace investigation. My name had been brought up as someone who may have experienced it. That was true and I spoke to the investigator about my experiences, which were harassment in nature. The individual resigned a few weeks ago. His resignation was not cheered…

His resignation was not cheered by all, and lamented by several.

In the last month or so, I’ve begun looking for new jobs and have interviewed at several places. I have a few offers on the table and was planning on submitting my resignation this week. However, this morning, I walked into a meeting and was told that my position was eliminated. Was told my performance was great, and I was great. To be fair, it should be. I’ve done 0 over the last year and have been bored out of my mind at below average salary. With that said, I handed over my stuff and left the building.

The whole thing feels weird. Off. My peers are confused and several have voiced skepticism. I’m the only one gone. I’m not quiet about what I think and have made it clear that the man who resigned should have been gone a decade ago for several reasons. The timing of all of this, with my resignation planned and participation in an unpopular investigation, makes me wonder.
