Pressure to go on “voluntary” on-call

Hi all, So I’ve been asked numerous times to go onto an on-call rota (which is supposedly voluntary) but I’ve always said no because I take a medication at night that has sedative properties and I don’t feel I could be reliable overnight because I’d be impaired/may not even wake up. Now some of my colleagues are leaving and I’m basically being pressured into going on this rota. It’s not part of my core duties (you get paid extra – a pittance, I might add). But I’m being made to feel like I have no choice. Am I going insane or is this unreasonable? Should I just go on the rota and if I screw up, say “I told you so”? This pressure is making me more likely to dig my heels in, it’s counter productive. And I’m sure as hell not coming off my medication because work wants me…

Hi all,

So I’ve been asked numerous times to go onto an on-call rota (which is supposedly voluntary) but I’ve always said no because I take a medication at night that has sedative properties and I don’t feel I could be reliable overnight because I’d be impaired/may not even wake up.

And I’m sure as hell not coming off my medication because work wants me to (they haven’t said that, but they’re not willing to have a reasonable discussion so I feel like it may be implied at some point)

Thanks for your help.
