Proper Disposal of Employee Documents

My boss was recently cleaning out offices of our old office manager as well as his personal secretary's office. I qent to empty one of our warehouse trashcans and it was full of unshielded documents just sitting there. I dug through it and found my original W4 paperwork with my social security number, my direct deposit paperwork with my bank account and routing number, along with that same info for every employee we've had work for us. There was also a huge amount of other documents, DMV forms, etc. Obviously this isn't alright, I don't want mine or my coworkers info or identities stolen. We have a lot of homeless digging through our dumpsters during off hours. Ended up getting yelled at for digging through the garbage trying to take out sensitive documents so I can shred or burn them. I shouldn't even have access to these things…
