This happened years ago but really speaks to the mind set in the USA
I worked at a call center making 12 dollars an hour though with shockingly good health insurance for that type of job. I got a phone interview for another job that went as follows
Recruiter: This is a 6 month contract to hire job with starting pay of 9$ an hours and benefits after three months
me: I already make 12 dollars an hour, already have benefits, and am already full time
them: well we have great opportunity for advancement
me: are you willing to put anything in writing that guarantees me something
Them: what?
me: repeats request
them: no …
me: I don't think I'm interested I already make more money
Them: its not all about the money
Me: No offense but this is latterly an arrangement for my time and skills in exchange for money, its not all about they money but the benefits you are you offering are well bellow industry standards, further more Mcdonalds also states they have great opportunities for advancement so unless you are willing to put something in writing you are not offering anything any other employer claims to offer
Them: why did you bother to apply then and waste my time
me: you didn't disclose pay or benefits on your job posting on monster?
them: hangs up the phone
