I work at a conpany with 8700 or so employees. All remote.
Since 2017, the PTO policy has been unlimited PTO. It was great! We are a fully remote SaaS-based company.
Today without warning, our Chief HR lady sends an email out saying everyone only has 15 days of PTO per year. Oh but wait! They still generously give us the final week of the year off, so its really like 20 guys!
No, its not..that final week is PTO not on our terms, but on the company's terms. Id rather work the last week of the year and use those 5 days elsewhere, like most people.
What this means is that we have 15 total days (vacation or sick) to ourselves for 51 weeks of the year. Thats one day off every 3.5 weeks.
What has pissed me off the most is the sudden change WITHOUT warning. No heads up that the policy would go from unlimited PTO to a defined amount, nothing. Just surprise! 15 days for everyone! Doesnt matter if its your first year here or twentieth!
Am I being dramatic or is this horrible leadership?? I feel like if I'm going to suddenly tell folks you no longer have the luxury of taking PTO as you want as long as the job gets done…then I'll give at least a warning so they know when it goes into effect and can plan for it.
