I work in a resort and there's a convention taking place in a few days. A coworker was checking in this group of cosplayers and we got into a conversation about anime and cons. We ended up exchanging social medias and a coworker told me it was against policy and that I'd be fired for it. This led me to having a panic attack in the back room for nearly an hour where I broke down to my supervisor. She told me since I didn't know better I won't be in trouble… THIS time. But also that it's considered fraternizing, even though our policy also states that it's okay to date within your own department. Go figure.
I like to think I'm a genuine person, it's part of why my customer service is just naturally good. And I'm bound to click with people and our interests, so if anything making friends with them shouldn't be a punishable offense. It's really discouraging to work in an environment that encourages guest interaction and relationships but the moment there's TOO much interaction and you make friends from it they actually write you up.
