Question about Universal basic income and nationalization of critical industries

I was just wondering if UBI can even work with privatized industries that regulate their prices based on income distribution. Wouldn't we need to implement really low price caps on things like agriculture, housing, healthcare, energy, transportation and other products and services humans need for survival? Wouldn't it just be easier to nationalize these critical industries and simply reduce the cost of living to zero instead?
