Quit docking each other for having no choice. We are all on the same team.

First, I have never posted in this sub so I apologize if I come across as arrogant. Long time lurker and it makes me sad to hear a lot of people go through what I used to go through everyday, and sometimes still go through. I think a lot of people in this sub are confused with the differences between loving things, being okay with things, hating things, and having no choice. I see many posts that blame others that are going through the same thing as they are for being okay with things they're not okay with. The recent trend is saying people are so okay with wanting to work 5 days a week and its so normalized because of that. Like they have some innate drive to slave their life away.

People have no choice, and to say otherwise is honestly just silly. This system has been in place for well over a hundred years. Before? It was way worse. Today, if people stopped working they would not be able to afford food for their children, not be able to afford to heat their apartment, they wouldnt be able to keep their head above water, get evicted, and starve. Everything they need to buy is based on the ability to make a certain amount of money, which is completely dependent on hours worked.

A lot of people in here CLEARLY have options. Which im not upset about. Like you live with your parents and could afford to not work for a few months and be fine. There is nothing wrong with doing that. When I was younger I would have completely cherished that option. I never had it, and most people I knew or know now also don't. It makes me feel like you're not understanding people's struggles. People can't just up and quit their job because it's not perfect.

Placing blame on other people in the same boat as you is going to help nothing. Ive never met anyone in my whole life that 'wants' to work. Everyone needs to stop acting like it's an unpopular opinion to not want to work 5 days a week, and blame your coworkers for “making you do it”. It's not their fault. They were born the same time you were and are subject to the same things.

To me posts saying “Y'all are way too okay with A,B,C”… it's like if we lived in a completely f'ed dystopian society where water was completely privatized to the point where you had to pay $20 to drink a glass of it. There would be people on the internet saying, “omg you are all soooo okay with this.” No. Of course not. I need this water to survive until the next day.

You want a 4 day work week while getting paid the same salary? Do something constructive. Are you voting in every election that you are able to? Congressional, state, and local levels? Support strikes. Harass your congressman. Voice your opinions to your employers about harassment, pay, time off. Organize strikes. Participate in marches. Be the change you want to see in the world. Stand up and do something. Or do nothing at all, including not blaming others who are struggling in the same ways you are.
