Currently bored at the airport so I thought I’d rant to pass time…
Although I already quit last week, it still bothers me that they didn’t hire me for manager position because of my age (M25). I was with a cannabis company for 1.5 years before they fired the manager for dropping the ball. Long story short he ignored an HVAC problem and the room went to complete shit.
After he was fired someone had to step up and handle the facility along with all the administration stuff. That person was me, the farm lead at the time. Given my experience in horticulture (8yrs) along with my Associates degree in Agriculture Business I figured I was the best person to step into the role. For 4 months I was the “Acting Manager” and was doing such a good job that they didn’t even bother looking for a new manager yet. Eventually they made a job posting for it and I applied immediately. A few days later corporate came down to do some interviews, me being one of them. During my interview everything was going very well and they seemed impress with me and the current stage of the facility. It wasn’t until the end when I got asked how old I was and when I answered they all looked at each other and then proceeded to ask me “how do you think people would feel being managed by someone younger than them?” Shortly after that we wrapped up the interview and on the way out I could hear them laughing and talking shit as they walked away.
After they made the decision to not hire me they hired 3 more managers within 2 months , whom all got fired for not being capable of running the facility. By this time it felt like a huge slap to the face, even all the employees agreed that things were better when I was acting manager. So eventually I put in my two weeks and found a much better job…
Moral of the story: DO NOT JUDGE PEOPLE BASED OFF AGE, LOOKS, RELIGION, etc. Judge they them based off their skills and what they bring to the table!
