I started working at this fried chicken place (their motto is “one love”) in the beginning of December of 2022. I started to get incredibly sick from the increasingly cold weather and was in no way in the right condition to work. They told us that if we ever needed time off then always request it in HotSchedules (our scheduling app) not by telling the managers. I did that, but when I didn’t show up that day I got a phone call and my boss warned me and said just to call in next time. I thanked her for letting me know and I continued to rest.
The next day was the same, expect I called in this time, and they told me I now had “six points” and that when I show up again they’ll discuss my job with me.
I felt better the next day and show up to work and my manager tells me that I’m getting terminated. Mind you, this point system is something they vaguely went over in an orientation over a month ago before this happened. I told her I was confused and tried to explain, but she cut me off saying it didn’t matter. This job was a much better opportunity for me considering it paid way better than my last job and the environment didn’t make me hate life.
The biggest bummer is just that they hyped you up with gifts and parties and tell you shit like “this is your home, we’re all a family” and then have no issue telling you t fuck off once you miss two days after catching the common cold. Fuck work honestly.
