Required to clock out whenever an employee uses the bathroom, even if it happens under a minute.

Is this illegal, or just shitty and unfortunate? I love my job, and have no interest in quitting, but I don’t feel right about this, and it’s upsetting me and all my friends/coworkers. Any suggestions?
