Restaurant mgr saying I need to get all time off requests picked up??

I had my first training day at a restaurant. To be frank, I am so damn tired of the industry and really want to get out. I just need to figure out my next move. In the meantime, I took a job here after quitting another one where the work environment was horrible just to keep my income steady. The pay is $3.50/hr + tips, no benefits. So really this guy is solely providing me the opportunity to earn tip money, nothing else. I told him last night I need a weekend off in June for a family wedding. He says I have to go on our Facebook group and ask people to cover it. I was like… how are people going to know they’re not working?? Apparently it’s up to people whose scheduled off day it is to pick up. He said “if it gets to a week before and no luck then I can probably help you out.” That’s ridiculous to me, and disrespectful. Like wtf how am I supposed to plan trips or have a life if this is how it works? All my years serving if I’ve told a manager well ahead of time and it’s one weekend it’s not been a problem. Honestly I’m tempted to just not go back but I do need money. Curious what anyone else thinks about this?
