Retail is becoming third world in my state. My first day after switching stores and I see this in the dishroom for a multi billion dollar company

Either thats mold on the vent, or dust. Either way I sneeze constantly near it. The dishwasher has this smelly gunk in it, and I pulled out fucking hair from inside the damn filter On top of things, I've been loyal to this company for 6 fucking years, and I get shit pay still, none of the coworkers or managers show an ounce of respect despite saying they “need” me. The AC also unit doesn't work when it's 110 outside, nothing is done to fix it. I'm in charge of 2 departments with the wage of 1. I also found out why even other retail positions wouldn't hire me was because I put my past stores from the same chain as experience, they all apparently answer “no” when asked the question “would you hire x again”? I live in Iowa, so you know that there's an active war to strip the sliver of workers rights left.

I have a degree in rich media, motion graphics and animation, with a certificate in graphic design, and have been applying manically since my graduation this year. i have gotten 17 rejections for even simple jobs I have experience in like photo/video editing.

All of my peers from both rich media and graphic design are also still stuck in retail I found out.

I'm convinced that everyone who fled retail during covid filled up all the more tolerable jobs and only thing is left is service industry.

I'm debating if it's worth just cutting out all the 6 years at this company when I apply elsewhere, but that also means I technically lose 6 years of experience as well. I'd be starting from square one again.

Fuck the rich
