Background: I work as a front office supervisor in a hotel in downtown Chicago.
About a month ago, I placed an official complaint on the property’s F&B manager for verbal harassment after he threatened me for withholding security keys to our back door. Recently, we had a dangerous encounter with a trespasser who made his way onto the guest floors and tried to break into some rooms. I was the one who caught him when I was doing a floor check. As he was being escorted off property, he mentioned he had a gun on him. This terrified me to my core and I think about this moment everyday I’m at work. My direct DOP made it very clear if I’m at work, the security keys are to be on my person and it is up to my discretion who gets the keys. This particular manager likes to sneak in through the back door to have his smoke breaks and not mention when he comes to and from work. The night he made the verbal threat, I told him he’s not getting the keys he said “well, see what happens tomorrow”. I filled a complain the following week with my DOP and my GM.
In the meeting, I mentioned that when they speak to him about this, that he is only allowed to talk to me about work related things and small talk is out of the question.
Surprise surprise, he put in his 2 weeks during this meeting.
This past week was his last week at work.
As I was leaving work this past Wednesday, I found my car driver mirror completely broken off as it was parked in the employee spots. Unfortunately, no cameras are in that area so no luck with any footage. When I went back into work to talk to my GM, this manager immediately chimed in to get other camera footage from neighboring buildings and offered his advice on how to fix it. He was not supposed to even talk to me but decided he should give his unwanted opinion.
It didn’t click until recently, but I can’t stop thinking he had something to do with the damage to my car. I am now $700 in the hole and things are just getting put together piece by piece. Maybe he wasn’t actually the person to do it but there are plenty of homeless people around the area that would do something like this for a measly $10. Maybe I’m completely overthinking it.
Only my car and his car were in the parking spots when it happened.
