So, I'm a receptionist at a rather large financial firm. It's a part time gig for me, that I do on the weekends, however if I have free time from my standard job I'll come in to cover shifts. That being said, I really don't like doing night shifts as I'm not a night worker, and it messes my sleep schedule. I never cause trouble, I always show up on time, I always relive the other people early if I can, and I never complain. I'm the weekend guy everyone forgets exists, and honestly I like it that way.
Now fast forward to this morning, and I get terminated 8 hours after my shift ended. Now the day before, I was requested to do an overnight shift. We lost one of the overnight people, and they really needed this covered, so I agreed. Now keep in mind I had already worked 6-2 and 4-12, and now I was expected to do an additional 12-8 over night. I wasn't thrilled, and I made it clear that this was a massive undertaking for me, and I was assured everything would be fine, and it would be an easy night. Now I know that I'm kind of at fault for this, I shouldn't have done it, but after working a near continues 24hrs, I couldn't help it. I passed out from 7:53-7:56. 3 minutes, that was it, and I know that because I had spent the last hour doing nothing much besides watching the clock. Aperently that was enough to terminate me.
Now I wasn't informed of this before I left, but rather 8 hours after my shift. They now expect me to drive back and turn in there badge. But honestly, that's gas money, and I don't wana spend it. Would I be in the wrong for telling them to buzz off? I mean they just need to deactive my badge, and it becomes useless. Maybe I'm just being unreasonable about this, but I did genuinely like this job, cause it let me do my homework while collecting a check, and I feel it's unfair to terminate me, when I was under such pressure, and when I was putting myself through this to cover someone else.
