Salary wage advice

Hi hope this is the right place for my question. I have started with a company a while ago on a Salary wage not hourly. I was off sick for a week and was deducted a weeks wage. For what I understood about salary was that you shouldn't be docked if off sick, the guys I work with have said that's how it used to be but with new office staff that has changed in recent years.

But if we have to work extra hour or so we get no extra pay

Also we get the same wage for working a 5 week month as we do working a 4 week month, because it's supposed to be salary wage.

I'm not sure how all the works I'm used to an hourly wage. But few of us feel like we are losing out to the company here and that we would be making more money as hourly wage.

So is it right to be docked for working less hours and not be paid more work working more hours?
