Screw retail – try customer service wfh positions and like your ass off about experience to get a job that pays living wage and benefits (don’t settle for anything less)

Long time lurker of this sub. I supervise a team of around 20 people and that's only after years of working in the same position and moving up the ranks. The difference is I finally have a say in things and have no tolerance for lack of empathy when training our new hires nor do I have tolerance for asshole customers. My advice for anyone with retail experience is to just say you have experience in a few platforms like Zendesk, Shopify, magento, woo commerce, phones, chat, email. This isn't just for retail workers but medical desk workers as well. I'm not saying it's the best life ever but it's a stepping stone above dealing with asshole customers in store and a lot of places should be offering 50k with benefits. Start ups in particular. And if you're not a lead you just show up (login preferably if the companies are with the WFH life) and just work the gig. I would strongly encourage lying on your resumes and practicing acing the interview and landing a CX gig if you have any customer facing position at all.

Some extra notes – fuck time micromanaging if you're able to be where you're supposed to be at a given time.

The perks of a WFH Customer experience position can vary but atleast you're not dealing with assholes in person.

All praise the hold button and “losing service” with a dick customer on the phone.

Also shout out to the understanding and sweet callers who are nice to customer service workers.

But fuck retail.

Customer experience can pay some bills and provide benefits. Don't settle for less than 50k in this day and age.

Know your worth people – this is just my attempt at a suggestion for people looking for a much sweeter gig with their current skills. Do anything you want after but fuck the retail life. WFH anything ftw.
