(I’m not super sure this fits the antiwork sub)
I (F, early 20s) work in an office. One of the most senior members of staff (M, around late 50s / early 60s) makes me really uncomfortable.
Every time I walk past him, he stares at my breasts. Not just a glance, a glance would be fine, I think it’s normal to have an occasionally glance. He stares for notably longer than is comfortable, and his eyes legitimately widen when he’s staring. However, when I am wearing a thick, oversized jumper that is so boxy that you cannot see any shape to my body, he barely ever looks at me when I walk by. Even if we speak, he barely looks at me at all. But as soon as I lose the jumper? Completely stares at my breasts, pretty much every single time.
For context, he sits on a desk very close to mine in the office. He is directly above me in the company hierarchy, a few tiers above me. He has a considerable hand in my salary and my job responsibilities. Basically, he has a lot of influence over my career, and I see him all day every work day.
The office culture is really bad. There are no female senior members of staff in the office. Rape jokes are made regularly, derogatory language is regularly used in reference to women. Due to this culture, I am almost certain that if I reported this he would face no consequences whereas I believe my reputation in the business would be ruined. I’ve started to feel very angry, sad, disgusted, disrespected and nauseous when he does it. What can I do? Is my only option leaving my job?
