hello! i decided last night that i needed a mental health day today, as i came home crying just from the thought of showing up to work the next day. i called my boss as early as i could to be respectful of their time in finding coverage. I used the excuse that a family emergency was happening that i needed to drive out of town for (just in case they try begging me to come in.) my boss simply says “well, it’s your shift so you need to come in!” I was baffled. i have been loyal to this job for half a year at only 19 years old, working underpaid and in horrible conditions, once even being forced to walk in -1 degree weather to work. my boss then asked if i had to miss the whole day, or if i could just come in late. I told them “no, i can’t come in.” I hung up the phone so furious! i want to just no show and text them “fuck this, i quit!” but i also don’t want to put my nice coworker (yes, that is singular) in a shitty situation. anyone have any advice?
