I just wanted to take a second to call out a dude I went to college with who used to lecture me about that “Working less than 60 hours a week is for failures” and that “the Chinese system of 996 is the minimum for Americans to be competitive now.”
According to his Twitter the startup he worked his ass off for went under today, leaving him with no income, no severance, and no equity value.
I’m not bragging that I was right to take a middle road of working less. I’d just like to point out that maybe working yourself to the bone for no extra money on something that isn’t necessarily your passion seems to work out badly in the real world quite a bit.
