Due to the lack of people in my company, I am pretty used to doing tasks outside of my job description. However, I am basically at my limit.
Here is a little background of my situation for anyone who cares. We have an item that is required for our production, but it is in-need of repair from our supplier. Our purchasing team is supposed to send that item over to our supplier a month ago. However, they never did. Though I don't blame them, since they probably drowning in workload as well. Last week, this issue became the hottest thing. The VP of the company got involved, and demanded that this issue get resolved asap. He personally contact the supplier, and put me as the action owner. I am being ask to personally take the item to our supplier and get the issue resolved.
This thing is, this is outside my role and responsibility. Not to mention, I am already drowning in my own responsibilities. The position of the person who should be doing this task is still vacant, but everyone seems to expect that I would cover the role. Now I don't mind doing the things within the company. However, I don't want to have to travel. The idea of having to travel to an unfamiliar area and deal with this issue gave me so much anxiety that I didn't sleep at all last night. I just don't know if I can even refuse to do it, since the “request” came from the VP.
