Some lady came into my work to tell me how she used to work hard…

I work in a restaurant/brewery, and we are closed 2 days a week because we’re short staffed. If we didn’t close, most of the BOH would be working 6-7 days a week. It’s a revolving door right now, with each person hired 2 more quit. I work on the days the restaurant is closed, and mostly just direct people to the beer garden/brewery. Some lady came in today and saw we were closed, and asked why. I explained, and she said “you know, I used to work my ass off when I was younger.” I responded by saying people here work hard and deserve to have a day off. She responded by giving me unsolicited advice that I should work hard when I’m young because it’ll suck to work hard when I’m older. I told her happiness is important, too, and she said “well I was happy when I worked…

Ugghhh, I just can’t with these people coming in and telling me the reason we’re short staffed is because no one wants to work any more. No, people don’t want to work here because they’re paid like shit and it’s not worth the time and energy. Plus I live in a tourist town, and cost of living has skyrocketed because wealthy vacationers are buying 2nd and 3rd homes here.
