Some shower thoughts about companies wanting to have their cake and eat it too.

From a US perspective. Companies want two weeks' notice otherwise you're non-rehire able. “You're family, team, whatever the term du jour is…. oh you need time for family, self, community…. sucks to be you. I promise I have a point towards the end. ADHD here, so I am sure this reads like a cat dancing on a hot tin roof to others. Above are just some minor gripes I have about the inequality of work, but I have a bigger one below I would love to hear various opinions on. So frequently we are regaled with stories of employers who are “clutch my pearls” shocked that someone actually works for money……true story bro.. Can you believe they don't want to work for free? Anyway, while I agree with this premise, everyone should be fairly compensated for their work. However, I also think there should be some part (if not all) of a job that people get satisfaction from (or like). This is hard in the US as it's not just the work or pay, but benefits, etc. that need to be considered. However, all things being equal….if you really can't stand a job, get out of it. I don't mean that in a glib sense. If you hate a job, work towards finding something better for you. I have been thinking about this over the last several months of watching and speaking with people. I see folks performing a job (that I am thinking OMG, that would literally drive me insane) and saying they enjoy it or get satisfaction from it. Like I said above, of course we should be paid, everyone should be, what the hell else are we supposed to pay our bills with? Goodwill? Experience? Brownie points?

Recently this line of thinking happened to coincide with me thinking about CEO pay. Like Amazon Andy Jassey, 2021 $213 million vs. median employee of $32,885….or Expedia Peter Kern $296 million, 2021 vs, median employee $102,270. Instead of putting the money that is funding their compensation back into the company, this and other C-suite pay goes to just a few individuals instead of infrastrcture, benefits, raises, rewards, growth, retirement, etc. Companies always run and cry “We need to pay this kind of money to attract the best talent.” Is that true? Really? I mean if a job is so fucking horrible that the only way you can get someone to do it is to offer them $296 million, are they really the best for the job? Shouldn't there be some element of them WANTING to do the job? Like they want to face the challenge and be successfull? I mean, aren't there people out there who would be willing, eager, and able to do the job and be ok with $2 million vs. $296 million?

Let me know what you think?
