I started working local family owned petstore at the end of January and lasted 5 weeks. Thought I would enjoy this as I have a huge passion for animals and I thought this job would help get me on a further career path with animals , turns out I was dead wrong on my first they trained me how to work the register and deal with customers which I had no problem with as it was my first retail job the second day I went in I was told I was going to be brought to there 2nd Store/warehouse to do further training again i had no problem with this and was told it was necessary once again I was dead wrong the minute I arrived at the 2nd Store/warehouse they brought me outback and had me start bagging and stacking and loading there own brand dogfood onto trucks by myself with the odd hour or two on the shop floor. I was slightly annoyed but didn't think much of this until a week later they hired a new guy fresh out of school and immediately had him outfront making sales and dealing with animals while I was still outback dealing with there dogfood he also didn't seem too do this training that was “oh so important for new staff members to take part in to become a reliable team member”. Cut too 5 weeks later I was still in the dogfood warehouse smelling like shit by myself and thought to myself that I couldn't take it anymore so I waited luntil my next paycheck the minute I seen the money hit my bank account I text my boss and told him “this job is far from what I applied for , I feel lied too and taken advantage off and I wouldn't not be returning in the morning” an hour later I got a text back saying “ok but its very unprofessional leaving on short term notice you also owe us X amount as your wore payed in advanced (I wasnt) we will be in touch to collect it from you”
It really annoyed me that he didn't even ask what my problems wore or maybe what they could do to make me stay all he said was I was very unprofessional and owed them money. They also tried to get me to sign a contract without giving me time to properly read threw it straight away I knew it seemed fishy and told then off the top of my head that I won't be signing anything without having somebody else read threw it first they seemed to get really annoyed by that statement but hesitantly said OK but they'll need me to sign it asap.
There wore plenty of other minor things that turned me off the job but another major one was when I clocked out for the day and was walking threw the Store towards were I had my motorcycle parked the boss called my name and told me too wait 10 minute and he'll walk out with me I did and when we got outside to my motorcycle without premision he immediately hoped on it took it off its kickstand setting of its alarm he then proceed to twist the throttle and sway my motorcycle between his legs while telling me about incoming stock I was furious but pretended it was no big deal as I didn't want to cause a scene and just wanted to go home ANYBODY who rides a motorcycle knows how annoying it is when somebody sits on or touches your bike without premision let alone set of the alarm on it.
Right now I'm a apprentice welder still hoping for a career working with animals but as of this moment that dream seems dead they treated court action about the owed money but i was told they wouldn't have a case due to some other private things that happend during my time with them so let them threaten me.
