Story time

I've been reading alot of bored panda articles featuring /antiwork stories. Figured it's time to add my own. [Background] Work in a repair industry for a multinational company for 5+ years. Pays average and every month we're micromanaged/hounded on productivity report even though management is unable to implement solutions for logistical and morale issues. Work in a repair industry for a multinational company for 5+ years.

Pays average and every month we're micromanaged/hounded on productivity report even though management is unable to implement solutions for logistical and morale issues. Also had to beg for certificate training even though it was promised when I was hired.

last year I applied for a similar position in another city. Interview/recruitment process took 6 months so I didn't think much of it. When came time for the final negotiation a substantial salary increase and immediate training was on the table.

In good faith I shared it with upper management and respectfully asked if what they could do to retain me as I had (Ill placed) loyalty and most of my friends/family were in our current city. I asked for a 5-10% increase, and a promise of training within the next 12 months.

Week 1 goes by no answer. I followed up and was told the country manager was out of the country. Meanwhile I turn down the new job out of respect and not wanting to waste the other company's time. They turn around and make a higher offer.

Week 2 goes by no answer. I call and was told country manager still isn't back. Out of respect I turn down the other company a 2nd time, not wanting to waste their time any longer.

Week 3 no answer. I call again and was told management had a meeting and country manager agreed I will get an increase closer to 5% than 10% and no guarantee of training. Also increase won't be guaranteed until company HQ approves in next year's budget and won't take effect until the new year. I ask if they could provide a written letter stating our discussed negotiation and was denied that.

Feeling rejected and after careful reflection I call back the other company and they immediately offer me the position at the higher salary.

Now 4 months down the road I cannot be more happy building a new career where I feel appreciated and well compensated.

Meanwhile my old company had to send repair work to other countries every month because the work i did cannot easily be replaced. It takes years and several certifications to do so.

My old company is also unable to hire new people due to higher than usual recruitment currently in my field and is so worried that they will lose more personnel they recently gave a 20% increase to my ex-coworkers. I'm laughing thinking of the whole situation
