Just got off a conference call with my district and regional manager discussing increasing profits moving forward.
Among the things that were brought up:
– Each customer is worth $40 more this year than they were last year, which itself was up $60 from previous year, but they think that number can go higher
– We need to 'streamline the process'
– And my personal favorite… “if you look at our models for how the business should operate, technically we are overstaffed”
This came after multiple mentions of how several of our garages only have two technicians working in the back despite our smallest garage having six bays.
This same district manager also loves spewing the slogan 'nobody wants to work anymore.' What more proof does anybody need that it's a lie to protect corporate greed?
There was also an email from this same DM and RM talking about how all managers need to do a better job at curbing hours and preventing overtime. They've been squeezing everyone's balls about it.
What the hell do these people expect from everyone below them? Working off the clock to bleed every last dime from every last person who owns a car?
It would be one thing if the increase in profit translated to an increase in pay, but the company just eliminated all hourly pay rates in favor of 'flag hours' which is basically just commission for mechanics. In theory, it means they can be paid more. In practice, they did it because 'too many people were standing around stealing hours.'
It's ridiculous, man.
