I just came off active duty and am beginning graduate school. I found a job to sustain myself while I do this but they are refusing to give me an official offer letter until I come in for my first day of work. I live over 400 miles away and cannot secure an apartment without an offer letter since my military pay has been reduced too much. Idk what they expect people to do who move to the area to take that position. I asked for the reason why they do this and apparently, they have run into problems with people using the offer letter to get apartments and not showing up. so it is an unflinching company-wide policy to screw every new hire over. I wouldn't join the place if I didn't have very limited other options.
