The head accountant asked for my number so he can text me on days there isn’t work to do. Huh?

For context, I'm a first year university student that has a wacky schedule and currently I'm 2 weeks on holiday since I've just finished my final exams recently, I would go to work at a retail company after class and I had a daily (part-time) salary for each day I came to work. So basically, the head accountant in the retail company I work in asked for my number today, I asked him: “Why?” His response: “On days that we don't have things to do and everyone is minding their own business I can just text you to not come to work so you don't waste your time, on days that we need you I'll text you.” I told him that I come to work everyday now because I'm on holiday for a couple weeks and just did my finals last Friday, (on average I worked 3 days a week),…

So basically, the head accountant in the retail company I work in asked for my number today, I asked him: “Why?”

His response: “On days that we don't have things to do and everyone is minding their own business I can just text you to not come to work so you don't waste your time, on days that we need you I'll text you.”

I told him that I come to work everyday now because I'm on holiday for a couple weeks and just did my finals last Friday, (on average I worked 3 days a week), I also told him that why should I come to work whenever he liked, when everyone here comes to work whether there are things to do or not? It's my free time and I was given the option to choose when I can attend and work due to my schedule.

I got pretty frustrated, as it felt like he was trying to just push me away from coming to work and get paid, I need the money as I spend it on myself, groceries, and split the tuition with my parents. some days we don't have much to do and we pretty much just lay down and earn money while doing nothing, today we had lots of work and I happily did my job, but for some reason he mentioned that out of nowhere.

He then suggested that he could call the manager office and convert my daily salary to a monthly one (same as everyone else, I'm the only one going to uni there) which meant that its mandatory for me to attend everyday unless I had a doctor's notice for being ill. I rejected and told him that I literally have a daily salary because I talked with management about my schedule and we agreed on it, he literally has no right to do such thing, why does he even care!?

I was visibly and audibly annoyed and had talked in a somewhat condescending and rude manner, nonetheless I tried to keep it respectful, he kept persisting but eventually stopped and didn't call management or anything. I don't get it, what was the point of this all?
