“The Pandemic is Over!”

In our last meeting, a higher up at our company was discussing how disappointed she was that she didn’t see more people in office. We are set to mandatory one day a week in the city. So after an impassioned speech (the group often gets yelled at for things individuals did, but no one feels comfortable coming back, and our job was fine when we were 100% remote) she declared the pandemic was over. The silence that followed was deafening. I waited. I’m often outspoken at my job and felt if I spoke on this, it would cheapen it. Imagine my swell of pride when others stepped up and challenged her on that point. Now, 3 of my team is home sick with Covid from going in last week. Now, 3 of my team is home sick with Covid from going in last week. And it just occurred to me that though Covid may not be the life-threatening plague it was before the vaccines, it’s still a week (sometimes two week) killer of plans and health. My friend is now home with a weeks worth of flu like symptoms, and I’m wondering where the accountability lies with my job. He absolutely got it from work. How has there not been a precedent set to avoid this nonsense?
