The small company syndrome…

Long story short, this is just a victory post about a really shitty employer.I got hired not that long ago by a company in a niche field. The salary was OK, it was WFH and no in-person client appointments, everything done via zoom and calls. My title was definitely a promotion in my career so I was extremely excited to start, in addition to all the free time I'd have being at home and being able to just switch off after hours and focus on myself and my family. Turns out the company has no data-base and they are operating through google sheets and docs, storing really sensitive data that if it gets leaked it is going to be a serious concern for many people. Half the people are doing jobs they were not hired to do, half the people don't know what they are doing. One of the bosses…

One of the bosses has OCD so is non-stop pestering people, the other one is so incompetent I really wonder how he has managed to stay alive until now. Both bosses operate through fear – Phrases like – 'You will do what you are told or I'll fire you', or ' Who do you think you are, you are my employee so you'll listen to orders'. Most employees have at one point cried (literary) because of poor treatment. They decide to ask employees to take a pay cut. They decide to ask employees to return to the office and also decide to ask employees to start doing in-person meetings with clients. For context, travelling to those meetings for me is 2 hours one-way, which also means that I will have half the time to finish all my work, in addition to also covering my own travel expenses. They then proceed to fire a person who has been the core of the company for quite a while, kind of like the unspoken 3rd boss. Everything really shakes up the morale and fast-forward to today over 50% of people are about to leave in the next 30 days. Bosses keep repeating that everyone is replaceable but we are already seeing the decline in revenue and the loss of market-share to competitors. We had new people join and within the first few weeks they NOPEd out of here, saying that they can get the same play for 3x less the responsibility. Three departments are leaving, which are at the core of the company and how the company makes money, and today they announced that they will be expanding into a different country due to a competitor going there and them not wanting to lose to them.

Are all small companies this delusional that they would rather over-stretch their resources and current employees than fix their sh*t and actually have a healthy company. Oh this is also in addition to us being like 'family'. Lol, no thanks.

Edit: I forgot to mention that shortly after I started they added additional 10 hours (unpaid) to my hours which were 'necessary' so we stay competitive. Those hours were split between the weekends. I can't wait until they go out of business.
