I have been meaning to ad this for a while. I am pretty damn pissed still so maybe it will help.
I work in behavioral health and recently my coworker who worked night was brutally killed and found by my coworkers who worked the following shift. It was my day off and had no idea until 24 hours later.
Before anyone asks, know that yes, the facility did a half ass job with security and they in my opinion are heavily responsible (not enough staffing, faulty locks ect.) and yes they are going to get sued. The client is going to prison. I knew them fairly well and though NOTHING could excuse what happened I am also grieving for the loss on both ends. The client was also one of the least likely culprits in the beginning.
The salt in the wound was they hired a cleaning crew for the the clean up (my guess because it was cheaper but I don’t have proof) and they walked off the job leaving blood everywhere. My co workers who found the body were made to clean up the mess. I am still finding blood on things.
Upper management did not step in until we got angrier and the Union pretty much was the only thing short of OSHA to advocate for us.
Very few people in the company have provided support. Mostly people that are not upper management. Even prior I was gaslit about procedures
No one seemed to act on concerns until someone died and they didn’t even check if the crime scene was clean.
Me and my coworkers are altered by this. I put in my notice only because my remaining coworkers and clients have been through enough grief.
