The world sucks and there is one reason why. The need for productivity. Society try’s to strip us of our humanity and turn us into mindless robots with the only goal of productivity. Why fear the singularity when we are already living it. It is important to note that productivity takes many forms, but when I am talking about “productivity” of higher ups, I am talking about mainly their pay check as getting more money is what they think being productive is
Every major problem can be linked to this. More people are complaining about school and living through hell at school —> Society puts a higher pressure on being productive and so students work harder to make sure that they are recognized as productive so they can get into higher productive jobs so they can be seen as productive, as that is now how they value their self worth. Climate change is getting worse —> The need to be productive is causing companies to prioritize profits and greed instead of being human. Housing market is bad —> corporations want to make more money so they can be “more productive” so they are increasing prices and increasing demand while cutting corners. The nation is divided —> a divided nation is more profitable and as stated before, profits are how corporations feel productive.
I could go on and on. In essence corporations want money and to do that they want people to be more productive, which creates a loop as being productive becomes the goal of society and then higher ups only feel productive when profits go up. I think this is seen the most clearly with AI. Ai taking over jobs should be a celebrated thing as now people can work less and have happier lives. But people are fearing them because they are “ruining the job market” (and other things but that is the main fear). But I think about it like this. If the job market is so fragile that morals and fracking better workers who have been designed to only do it without the pain we go through from such an immoral practice, then maybe there is a problem with the job market.
And let me be clear. Humans need to feel at least somewhat productive to actually feel happy. But that does not mean that our current system is the way to do it. Maybe it is time we take our time away from soul crushing jobs and instead think of ways we can fell productive without all of this corruption. Because I in-vision a society in which our needs are taken care off for free by machines that can work without a soul and that our energy is spent on better problems and better solutions and the better cultural development of society, similar to the Greeks or Roman’s once their society’s grew enough.
That is all(this might not be the most coherent thing as my phone is glitching out and I am getting about 2 frames a second)
