I saw a tiktok the other day, and I can't remember the dudes name but it's some old guy always preaching socialist stuffs. In this video he talked about the days of slavery. He mentioned there was this group that looked at the awful treatment, the beatings, the family separation, the long days, and they wanted to fix it and make it better. There was another group who looked at those people like they were psychopaths. They didn't want to fix slavery, they wanted to end slavery.
I cannot attest to the historicity of this, but thats not actually important. What is important is that this is why I feel that leftists can no longer in good conscience support the democratic party. I don't want to fix capitalism, I want to end capitalism. I dont want better wages while the boss is still a gazillionaire. I don't want more taxes so I can afford subsidized private insurance. I don't want thing to be comfortable enough that we don't rise up, so that the wealthy can continue their depravity and leisure.
In the story above, that's how I see the democratic party. We cannot afford to indulge their pleas of “Oh but look at how bad the republicans are!” Yes, they're awful, but that doesn't make you good.
I do not want to fix slavery and make it better. I want to end it.
