Yesterday, I had a final interview scheduled for 8am and I was due to start work at 9am. So I got to the office early to do the Teams interview in the canteen. This meant that I got to my desk earlier than usual and started doing my work at 9:40 because I was just bored of browsing my phone. I didn't and won't get paid for that 20 minutes.
Anyways, there's currently road construction happening in the area for the next two years so it's a nightmare to get around. I usually take the 5:30 bus home that's located up a nasty hill (I have asthma too so fuck the hill), but with construction this means I don't get home til after 7. There's a bus at 5:05 that is a lot closer walking distance and nowhere near the hill. Imagine walking 5 minutes instead of 18 and getting home at 6 instead of 7:30.
So I'm the only one left in the office besides the cleaners at 4:45. My boss and coworkers had left for the day. I decided to take the earlier bus because of what I said above. So I leave the office at 4:53. Run to the bus stop and it's just turned 4:59. I see my HR rep get out of her car and walk to the door of what I assume is her house. I realise then she lives right next to the bus stop. She comes back out in gym clothes and then goes inside. The bus comes and I don't see her again.
I hope she didn't see me. My boss already hates me and will do anything to fire me. I mean, I could ask if they are OK with me leaving early, but my boss is the type of person who would ask you if you could reschedule a doctor appt or go to the appt using a holiday day. I tried to ask if I could work from home once to meet the boiler man and I was told no and to ask my husband if he can do it.
I'm anxiously awaiting a call from a recruiter about potentially having an offer somewhere. No guarantees just I had a final third interview that went well.
Do you guys think I shouldn't have left early? I'm not crazy, right?
