Antiwork

Today was supposed to be my first day back at work after a 2 week long injury recovery They hired someone else without telling me, and expected me to do another job when they didn’t show up.

I am infuriated. Fuming. So when I first applied for this position, it was advertised as being directly through the company. Ended up finding out it was actually through a local temp agency, which I was not familiar with at all. Biggest mistake in a while. The pay was exceptional for someone my age, and as a college student, as well as the hours. Another red flag in retrospect. I go to interview through the warehouse manager directly, and everything goes well. Except I find out I'd be making $4 less than what was advertised, as well as having entirely different hours than the temp agency told me. I'm not the best at standing up for myself, and have some fairly bad anxiety when it comes to interviewing, plus needed a job to keep up with rent as quickly as possible. So I just agreed. The pay was still enough…

The pay was still enough to keep me afloat, and the hours weren't too bad still. Fast forward to the first day, its very similar to the job I had prior to the job before my last. I know what I'm doing, and my coworkers were nice for the most part. All seemed well, until I ended up hurting my wrist on my way to work one morning. I stayed for part of the day, and ended up finally telling my coworker who I was reporting to. He told me to go home, and that he would explain everything to the manager. I go to the hospital, and find out I partially tore my wrist cartilage. They send me home with a note telling me to not use my wrist, and stay home for two weeks. I relay all this information to my temp agency, as I was told to do. They tell me to keep them updated, and that the company was still interested in employing me. After getting a release form last week, I was permitted to head back in to work. Even met with the agency in person to make sure everything was alright. They expressed to me I was starting again on Monday, and the company STILL wanted me to work there. I go in today on time, and my supervisor looks surprised to see me. Apparently they have hired an entirely new temp through the SAME temp agency as me, to do my job…

I was super confused, and didn't know whether to stay or not. The temp agency wasn't open yet, so I had to stay and wait for 2 hours for them to open. During this time, they had me do another persons job while I waited. At this point, my confusion had turned to anger. Upon finally getting ahold of the agency, I was told to go home and they would call me when they figured out what happened. I do not plan on returning under any circumstances. I don't care whose fault it was, this is absurd. Never go through temp agencies unless you've worked with them before or know the company. Thats the advice I can give at this point. Because holy fuck, what a shitshow. Learned my lesson the hard way that's for sure. All my employers prior to this have been fairly upfront and decent, I never thought I would experience something this bizarre. Thankfully I was able to get some interviews for better jobs today. But that bike ride home was probably one of the hardest rides of my life. I've never been this infuriated before, and it was difficult just to stay on top of my bike. Never… again…
