So I'm an electronics technician.
For my job I'm required to drive to various sites across the east coast this can range from 45 minutes to 8+hrs of driving to get to the next job location.
The problem is that my time is split up into two different 'pay groups' both of which are the same hourly rate. However my time spent driving (a company truck) for some reason does not count towards overtime which really seems immoral if not illegal.
It's pretty common for me to have 50+ hour weeks including my travel time but I almost never have any overtime unless I happen to get that much 'on site' time.
I make $28/hr so I'm definitely not salaried or anything like that. So how is this company (a quite large company) getting away with this? I've talked to other techs but they all seem almost scared to discuss it.
