I left a job back in October due to some issues with checks bouncing, and some conflicts with the owner in trying to obtain unpaid wages. She wasn’t pleasant and it was a hassle to get the bounced checks back, but I did. However, she told me the remainder of my pay would be mailed to me. It never was. I’m still owed roughly $600 for hours worked in October that I was never paid.
In late November, I reached out to the NYS Dept of labor and filed a claim for unpaid wages. In December, I received a letter from them stating they were investigating my case, gave me a case number, but the number to call was the main line which just took me to unemployment benefits and spun me in automated circles when I called to check on my claim. So far I have heard nothing further about this.
I have also not received any tax documents from my previous employer regarding my time working there, and I’m supposed to file taxes soon.
Additionally, I’ve been keeping up with the store via google, and saving screenshots from some people who have mentioned they consigned with her and they also have either not gotten paid or their checks have bounced. I feel like this could be relevant.
I am hesitant to cause a stir because I don’t want to hinder whatever investigation might be happening, but I also feel like it’s been four months and I’ve heard nothing, and can’t get in touch with anyone real regarding this case.
What further steps can I take from here? I sort of want to just go scorched earth right now and put her on full blast everywhere I can and hope that lights a fire under her, but I don’t know if that’s the right move. She seems to be scamming other people though as well, and that makes me even more angry. I deserve my money, and I want these people to get their money they’re owed as well.
What can I do?
