Trying to be considerate backfires.

So I’m leaving my job for a different one, and figured that I would be considerate and mention that I was planning to leave the firm. I gave a months notice so I could hand over or finish projects. This was done last Thursday. My manager calls me in the morning (Friday), HR is there too. They tell me my resignation is accepted effective immediately, and I will lose access to my laptop and work accounts after said call. I will never try being considerate again.
